Applications for centralized and shared access to files and documents are becoming increasingly popular. To work with documents, you do not need to buy and install software on your workstation; just open your browser and get the usual functionality for working with documents.

A significant advantage is storing documents of all employees on the server, which allows you to:

  • Storage security is higher than if they are located at each employee’s workstation
  • Possibility of collaboration
  • Ease of access from different devices
  • Backup

OnlyOffice is a cloud office server application that allows you to work with documents using a browser. You will have access to all the usual tools for working with documents.

We will install on a VPS server running Debian 12.

Please note the minimum server requirements:

  • 50 GB - disk
  • 6 GB - RAM
  • 2 Cores - CPU

1. Installation

1.1 By default, Debian 12 has apache2 and exim4 installed, let's remove them.

service stop apache
service stop exim4
apt remove apache2
apt remove exim4

1.2 Installation script

wget https://download.onlyoffice.com/install/workspace-install.sh
chmod +x workspace-install.sh
./workspace-install.sh

We select the recommended installation method via docker, the default (Y).

The installation will take some time, after which you will receive a success message.

JWT is enabled by default. A random secret is generated automatically. Run the command "docker exec 687082c436b8 sudo documentsserver-jwt-status.sh" to get information about JWT.

Thank you for installing ONLYOFFICE.

1.3 Completing installation

Go to your browser using the pre-configured domain or server IP address and complete the installation.

You need to come up with a password, indicate the email address to which a link will be sent to confirm the address and select the interface language.

2. Working with documents

You can add a new document to the menu.

2.1 Example of working with a text document

2.2 Example of working with a table

3. Setting up an SSL certificate

To work using the secure https protocol, we recommend installing an SSL certificate after setting up the domain in the DNS editor.

Follow the link http://xx.ip.xx.ip/controlpanel/https and download the SSL certificate in the menu that appears.

Installation completed.
