In this guide we will describe how to set up a proxy server running on the Socks5 protocol in an Internet browser. This type of proxy is designed to work with a large number of applications and differs favorably from an http/s proxy in that it is not compatible with all applications as it modifies the traffic.
We will use the latest version of FireFox as a browser, since this browser, unlike others, has its own proxy server settings and does not affect the global settings of the operating system.
In the basic version, FireFox does not have the ability to authorize via Socks5, which in our case is a necessity, so we will configure the Socks5 protocol in the additional Proxy Toggle plugin.
1. Install the Proxy Toggle plugin
Open FireFox browser and copy the link:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/proxy-toggle/
Click add extension, then in the extension settings click - Pin to toolbar.
2. Proxy Toggle plugin settings
Open the plugin settings through the menu
about:addons
Specify your proxy server settings by selecting the SOCKS5 protocol.
3. Switching the proxy server operation
In this switch position, the use of settings in the plugin is disabled, the browser uses the basic settings.
Using plugin settings - Disabled.
3.1 Enabling Socks5 proxy
Press the switch to turn it on, the active position is indicated by an icon with 3 connected dots.
Using plugin settings - Enabled.
