In Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems, there is a basic functionality for creating restore points and, if necessary, reverting the operating system state to the date of the restore point creation.
The system restore option must be enabled. Go to the computer properties under the System Protection tab, click the configure button, and enable protection in the settings window that opens.
In the basic functionality, the system is fully restored to the selected point, except for user files—new files created by you are not deleted when restoring to an earlier state.
Sometimes system restoration fails, or you only need to recover specific files—in such cases, there is an excellent solution.
The utility ShadowExplorer allows you to select a restore point from a list, view its contents, choose the necessary files, and extract them without initiating a full restoration.
All folders and files contained in the restore point are available for viewing and recovery, with convenient switching between the list of available points and the ability to view the last modification date of a file.
Simply select the desired folder or file and click Export. The application is free and easy to use, available for download in both installer and portable versions.
