Comparison of mail server builds based on PostfixAdmin and iRedMail

We will compare 2 builds, our standard one based on PostfixAdmin and iRedMail Lite's own control panel, as this is the version that comes with the build and does not require payment. While if you want to expand the functionality, the owners require you to upgrade to the Pro version, which already costs quite well.

We installed the basic version of iRedMail on a Debian 11 server from the script provided on the developer's site, during installation we were asked to choose the Roundcube or Sogo web interface. After completion, we saw a simple admin panel where you can add a mail domain and create a mailbox in it, you can also add an administrator and that's it, all the functionality would be exhausted.

In comparison, postfixadmin compares favorably with:

  • mail collector from third-party servers
  • adding aliases to mailboxes
  • a larger knowledge base on the Internet on various issues
  • the ability to integrate with modules for roundcube

Thus, if you want to create your own server for a long time and improve its functionality over time using your own or third-party scripts, the choice is unequivocal, the assembly based on PostfixAdmin, it is on it that we offer a ready-made mail server, since iRedMail, although it is popular for due to the ease of installation, but with its limited functionality, it forces you to switch to a paid, tangible annual subscription, while being a foreign software developer, which is similar to other foreign solutions.
